Boone County approves three-year labor contract for Building Department

Boone County commissioners approved a three-year collective bargaining agreement for the Building Department at their Dec. 18 meeting.

Becky (county staff) said the agreement covers three union employees; two employees will receive 3% increases across the board for each of the next three years, and the building inspector will receive 5% in the first year followed by 3% and 3% in subsequent years. The agreement also aligns the union's insurance contribution with other county unions.

During roll call, the board approved the contract with one abstention from Dave Wilsey, who later explained he abstained because of related bargaining matters that could affect a separate unit he is involved with.

Why it matters: The contract sets wages and benefits for a small group of county employees and creates multi-year budget commitments; the abstention was recorded for transparency but did not change the outcome.

Next step: The contract will be implemented according to its terms; county payroll and human resources will process the wage increases as scheduled.
