Committee approves minutes, forms working group to plan 2026 educational breakfast

At its March 7 meeting the Legislative Committee approved the minutes of its Feb. 21, 2025 meeting and authorized a working document to begin planning a 2026 educational breakfast at the state capitol.

Julie Stencil moved to approve the Feb. 21 minutes; the motion passed by voice vote with several "ayes" and one opposition recorded. Later in the meeting Chair Jody Shab McNally proposed forming a small subcommittee to draft and populate a working document for the breakfast and asked whether such a working group must be posted publicly. Courtney, committee staff, confirmed the working group could meet if it is posted as an open meeting and follows usual public‑meeting protocols.

Committee members discussed logistics for an in‑person April meeting and a field trip in Pagosa Springs and suggested extending invitations to legislators who represent the region, although McNally cautioned that lawmakers near the end of session may have limited availability. The committee voted to start the working document; McNally said she would circulate names and continue coordinating with staff.

Next steps: Courtney will post and maintain the working document as appropriate and staff will circulate invitations and a draft agenda for the April in‑person meeting. The committee will reconvene with the same agenda at its next session and expects to refine plans for the April field trip and the 2026 educational breakfast.
