Commission discusses May Hall shooting-range design, asks DNR for clarification

Commissioners discussed a proposed layout for the May Hall Shooting Range after receiving an email from the state Department of Natural Resources that reportedly recommended a rifle/pistol range with about 10 lanes and two trapshooting fields but said there was insufficient footage for a skeet range.

Speaker 2 summarized the DNR note and asked commissioners whether they preferred trap shooting only or whether they wanted staff to pursue space for skeet. The chair and other commissioners discussed differences in layout and safety zones — one commissioner asked DNR to specify how much additional room would be required for skeet. Commissioners also noted prior ecological testing on the site; Speaker 2 said DNR had performed tests (including for salamanders) that may have informed its recommendation.
