Calendar committee proposes 2026–27 schedule with 186 teacher days and up to seven make-up snow days

Dr. Reed presented the calendar committee’s proposed 2026–27 Wallingford School District calendar and the rationale behind negotiated changes to the school-year schedule.

Dr. Reed said the teacher contract negotiation reduced the number of teacher days from 188 to 186, and the calendar committee proposes reducing student days “down from 183 to 182” while remaining above the state minimum of 180 student days. He told the committee that most neighboring towns use 182 student days, meaning the proposal would align Wallingford with nearby districts.

On snow-day make-ups, the committee proposed adding up to seven days onto the end of the school year to account for inclement-weather closures; Dr. Reed said days beyond seven would likely be made up during April vacation. The chair asked for clarification about professional-development time and early-release days; Dr. Reed confirmed there are four full professional-development days and eight early-release days scheduled across the district for staff development and conferences.

What’s next: The calendar proposal will be discussed further and brought forward to the board for approval as part of the board’s agenda process.
