Advisory board approves amendments to Lake Havasu City Code Chapter 11.06 on officer terms and attendance

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board approved tracked changes Monday to Lake Havasu City Code Chapter 11.06 that adjust officer terms, meeting frequency and attendance rules and clarify some powers and duties.

Staff walked the board through the proposed edits: remove the provision limiting officers to two consecutive one-year terms; change the attendance rule so that absence from two regular meetings in a calendar year without consent constitutes resignation; and retain language assigning certain advisory duties to the board while removing or clarifying items that staff and the city attorney deemed unnecessary to codify.

Director Rivera said staff consulted with Council Member Cameron Moses, Assistant City Manager Anthony Koswalski and City Attorney Kelly Gary while preparing the revisions. The board discussed whether the two missed meetings should be consecutive or counted within a year and agreed to include the phrase "in a calendar year" for clarity.

A board member moved to approve the document as edited; another board member seconded. After brief confirmation of the attendance language, the chair called for the vote and the board answered "aye." The motion passed by voice vote.

The board will continue to meet monthly until the updated code is approved by the city council, at which point the meeting frequency is expected to shift to every other month per the new language.
