Bonner County renews workers' compensation with State Insurance Fund after claims work lowers rate

Bonner County commissioners approved renewal of workers' compensation insurance with the State Insurance Fund following a presentation from Risk Manager Christian Jocelyn.

Jocelyn said the base premium for the upcoming policy period was estimated at $356,818, subject to spring audit of actual payroll and hours. He credited concerted claims review and closure efforts for reducing the county's experience modifier from 1.17 to 0.87, which reduced the premium. Jocelyn noted the county now has fewer open claims (four at the time of presentation) and highlighted a premium discount tied to a drug-and-alcohol program and the improved modifier.

Commissioners and staff praised the effort to reduce open claims and noted self-insurance remains an option to evaluate but likely does not provide a cost benefit at present. After discussion, a motion to approve renewal of workers' compensation with the State Insurance Fund was moved, seconded and approved by roll call.
