Energy advisory highlights community power enrollment and 1.7 MW prospect at Jones Avenue

Councilor Taber presented the Portsmouth Energy Advisory Committee’s year‑end update on Dec. 22, framing the committee’s recent work in three numbers: 12,200 Portsmouth customers enrolled in community power, approximately $2,100,000 in cumulative customer savings year to date, and a prospective Jones Avenue solar array with an expected output of about 1.7 megawatts.

Taber noted Portsmouth switched to community power in 2023 and is part of a broader Community Power Coalition that now represents a large share of the state’s ratepayers. He said the Jones Avenue solar project is progressing and could provide a meaningful renewable energy asset for the city grid if developed.

Councilors thanked Taber for the report and asked staff to continue updates as project planning continues.
