Union County to put Caldwell Place minor bridge to public bid; parks projects move to phase 2

Director Palikay of Union County's Department of Engineering, Public Works and Facilities told commissioners the department has 10 resolutions on the agenda and that the replacement of the Caldwell Place minor bridge will proceed to public bid.

When Commissioner Mirabella asked about the timeline for restoring the small structure, Palikay said, "About a year," describing the replacement as a roughly 12‑month process once the project advances through bidding and contracting.

Parks and Recreation Director Dervin Brake said a reduction in the listed amount for one parks item reflects that the project is in phase 2 and that funds were reserved to "completely hydro rake the pond." Brake said that approach produced the lower amount shown for the current phase. Commissioner Granados thanked staff for securing additional funds for playgrounds at "Moore And Ankle Park" and Broadway River Park, saying residents will benefit.

The engineering item will go out to public bid as part of the board's capital work; staff said they will return with procurement timelines and award recommendations as the bidding process proceeds.
