Pharr highlights international outreach; Global Business Hub marks first year

Pharr’s executive director presented highlights from two recent events, telling commissioners the city hosted panels in Monterrey, Mexico, aimed at connecting international investors with local opportunities and resources for legal, immigration and accounting guidance. The presentation noted the Pharr Economic Development Corporation partnered with the American Chamber of Commerce of Mexico to host the Cineria Summit as part of ongoing efforts to draw investment to the city and the region.

Dakecia Arame, called forward during the executive director’s report, said the summit brought legal and business experts together to explain pathways for Mexican investors interested in Texas. She and other presenters emphasized coordination among the Pharr EDC, the Pharr International Bridge authority and the chamber to present a unified front to entrepreneurs and investors.

Arame also announced the first anniversary of the Pharr Global Business Hub, describing it as a regional center for entrepreneurs, foreign investors and local small businesses. She said the hub runs a condensed seven‑week entrepreneurship course that met once per week with roughly 10 participants, and that local subject‑matter experts discussed patents and small‑business resources. "We're celebrating our first year anniversary here at the Pharr Global Business Hub," Arame said.

Arame told the commission the city owns adjacent property that it plans to use to expand the hub and add programs for global business partners, but she did not provide specific timelines or budget figures during the meeting. The report also mentioned recent workforce activities, including a co‑hosted job fair and a special‑needs workshop.

The presentation concluded with thanks to partners and a statement that ongoing international outreach and local partnerships are key to the city’s strategy to attract business and support entrepreneur growth.
