Subcommittee moves cleanup edits to homeless‑youth policy to full committee

Lauren Walsh, assistant director of compliance, presented proposed cleanup edits to the district policy on homeless children and unaccompanied youth (JFABD). She said the changes are technical and non‑substantive: correcting typos, clarifying that the homeless liaison’s interview with parents/guardians may occur at registration or at other times when needed, and removing outdated references that identified the homeless liaison as a registered nurse who administers immunizations.

Walsh said the policy review did not alter the mechanisms for connecting students with services; rather, it removed language that no longer reflects current practice. She noted a model policy previously supplied did not recommend changes and that the district’s policy required only minor edits to improve clarity and eliminate redundancy (for example, clarifying that unaccompanied youth must meet the federal definition of homeless rather than duplicating that language in the local definition).

A motion to accept the revised policy and move it to the full committee was made and seconded; the subcommittee recorded affirmative roll‑call votes. The full committee later recorded affirmative roll calls to move the item for full consideration.
