Board approves $7,495 settlement for gate repair, signs three official bonds and accepts lowest GO bond bid at 3.2%

The Monroe County Board of Commissioners took three formal actions at the Dec. 4 work session.

First, the board approved a settlement agreement with Marion Reeves for $7,495 to replace and repair an automatic gate control panel that was damaged by a county highway worker while mowing. An unidentified commissioner moved to approve the settlement; the motion was seconded and the board signified approval by voice vote. The chair announced, "Motion carries" and recorded the tally as 3-0.

Later the board moved to approve signatures on the official bonds for three elected officials — the sheriff, the recorder and the auditor. After a motion and second, commissioners voted in favor by voice.

Finally, staff reported the county's general obligation bonds had been bid and the low bidder was Peoples State Bank at a 3.2% interest rate. A commissioner moved to accept Peoples State Bank as the low bidder for the GO bond; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote (recorded 3-0). Staff represented the 3.2% figure as the low bid; the board accepted the recommendation in the work session.

All three actions were approved without recorded dissent and without extended discussion during the work session. Public comment for these items was not taken at the work session; commissioners said public comment would be available at the regular council meeting where appropriate.
