Anacortes Mayor Matt Miller offers farewell as council members pay tribute

Council members and residents at the Anacortes City Council meeting on Dec. 22, 2025, paid tribute to Mayor Matt Miller as he delivered his final remarks and the council recognized departing Councilmember Amanda Hubick.

Councilmember Fantini opened a series of tributes by praising "Mayor Matt Miller" for years of devoted service, mentorship to newer council members and steady leadership; Fantini noted Miller’s prior service in the U.S. Navy and called his tenure marked by "diligence, sincerity, and a genuine care for this community." Several other councilmembers echoed those remarks and specifically thanked Councilmember Amanda Hubick for four years of service and for bringing "efficiency" and thoughtful contributions to council deliberations.

Mayor Matt Miller responded to the tributes and used his closing remarks to emphasize the practical, operational nature of city government and to thank staff for their work keeping city services running. "Thank you for the privilege of serving as your mayor. It's been an incredible journey," Miller said, expressing gratitude to residents, staff and fellow elected officials. He encouraged residents to consider public service and praised city staff for the day‑to‑day operations that he said make the city function.

The meeting closed with brief personal remarks from multiple councilmembers and an adjournment. No policy decisions were taken as part of the farewell recognition; the mayor said he would offer additional acknowledgments later in the agenda and then adjourned the meeting.

The council’s next regular meeting will be on the first Monday of the month in January 2026; City Hall and some services will be closed for the holidays as previously announced earlier in the meeting.
