Mayor Matt Miller bids farewell at final Anacortes council meeting

Mayor Matt Miller delivered his final remarks to the Anacortes City Council on Dec. 22, thanking staff, residents and fellow councilmembers for the opportunity to serve and urging more people to consider public service.

Councilmembers took turns offering tributes and personal thanks. Councilmember Fantini praised Miller’s steady leadership and mentorship, noting weekly guidance he received from the mayor. Several colleagues thanked Amanda Hubick for four years of service to the council and the community; Hubick reflected on her time in office, praised staff work and encouraged civic engagement.

Miller described the work of city government as “operational” and focused on providing essential services. He thanked city staff for keeping services running, acknowledged citizens’ input and encouraged others to consider public service. He closed his remarks with an informal line, and then adjourned the meeting.

No formal votes or policy changes were made as part of the farewell. The council completed its business and adjourned for the year.

The new council/administration will begin work on Jan. 1, 2026.
