AC Freeman roof work underway; city seeks condition assessment for Punta Gorda Historic City Hall

Danielle Berhel, Senior Project Manager in Urban Design, told the board the certificate of appropriateness for the AC Freeman house roof replacement "was approved last week" and that roof work was underway. She said interior and exterior repairs will follow once the building is made watertight and that exterior materials will be replaced "like for like" or discussed with the code office if alternates are needed.

Berhel said the city submitted authorization under a master agreement with Parker Mudget Smith to provide an updated condition assessment of Punta Gorda Historic City Hall. The assessment will evaluate structural integrity, historic features, post‑hurricane damage, HVAC and electrical systems, ADA compliance needs and will result in construction plans that prioritize cost‑effective essential repairs while preserving architectural heritage.

After staff answered clarifying questions about scope, Berhel said an agreement with the consultant was anticipated to be signed soon. Board members responded that the updates were "good news," and staff indicated they would continue to report progress to the board.
