Rangers report small brush fire response, storm repairs and new hire in operations update

Ranger Patrick provided a verbal operations update to the Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency highlighting recent field work and staffing.

Patrick said the ranger unit is fully staffed following the recent hiring of Bridal Schaefer, described rapid response to a small vegetation fire (the Jans fire) in Los Robles Open Space that burned about two acres and the subsequent trail, drainage and erosion-control work after more than five inches of rain. "Thanks to cooperative winds and an excellent response from the Ventura County Fire Department, the fire was quickly put out after about 2 acres of vegetation had burned," Patrick said.

He credited coordinated preparation and post-storm repairs (the DAMP program) and noted volunteer contributions including Eagle Scout projects at Los Robles and Parkview Trail. Board members thanked staff for the work and asked clarifying questions about the location and homeowner coordination for some cleared areas.

The update was informational; no board action was taken.
