City of Newport Beach to Give Away Free Compost Starting Nov. 17

The City of Newport Beach will provide free compost to residents beginning Nov. 17, 2025, while supplies last, city speakers said.

The program uses organic landscaping waste collected in Newport Beach and processed by OC Waste and Recycling to produce nutrient-rich compost available at four self-serve locations: Bonita Canyon Sports Park, Grama Howell Park, the Avon Street parking lot and the Corporation Yard. "The City of Newport Beach is offering free compost to residents starting 11/17/2025 and until supplies run out," Speaker 1 said.

City representatives said the initiative aims to reduce waste and support local gardening. "This program is a simple way for all of us to reduce waste and give back to our local environment," Speaker 2 said, adding the city is "excited to make composting easier and more accessible for every Newport Beach resident."

Compost will be bagged and replenished every two weeks, officials said, and residents may bring their own containers or use pre-bagged material provided on site. "Bring your own containers or use the pre bagged compost provided and help keep Newport Beach's gardens green and sustainable," Speaker 1 said.

A resident speaking in support said the material will help home gardens and landscaping. "As a home gardener myself, I'm always looking for ways to help my plants grow better," Speaker 3 said, urging neighbors to take advantage of the program.
