Council approves routine bills and hears fire chief’s year‑end outreach report

The Torrington City Council approved the city’s invoices for Dec. 3–Dec. 16, 2025 at its Dec. 16 meeting after staff answered member questions about specific line items and program donations.

Clerk‑Treasurer Lynette Strecker explained two invoice lines related to donations for a senior Christmas program were duplicates resulting from additional donations; staff voided the earlier line and kept the consolidated entry. Council members also asked about an FAA invoice (about $19,400) which staff said covered relocation of the ASOS weather station into the new terminal building — a lower cost than the $50,000 the city had previously estimated.

The council approved the bills by voice vote with no nays.

During public comment, Fire Chief Luis Correa reported roughly six calls since the last meeting, including carbon monoxide responses, a hotel false alarm caused by construction, and a mutual‑aid response to a haystack fire. Correa described substantial holiday outreach: the fire department escorted Santa to schools and daycares, supported a Shop With a Cop program, and coordinated gifts for seniors through a local senior friendship center. He also said the department hosted the governor for a discussion of potential property tax decreases and their implications for fire departments and special districts.

Council closed public comment and adjourned the meeting for the year; the next meeting date announced was Jan. 6, 2026.
