Historic zoning commission approves nomination of Dr. C.B. Jones House to National Register

The City of Knoxville’s Historic Zoning Commission voted Dec. 18 to approve the nomination of the Dr. C.B. Jones House at 631 Scenic Drive to the National Register of Historic Places for its architectural significance.

Staff presented the property’s history and architecture: the 2½-story house was designed in 1925 by Baumann and Baumann and combines Colonial Revival/Georgian symmetry with elements drawn from Tudor Revival and Craftsman styles. Staff noted the house retains high exterior integrity and that McLuhan collection architectural plans supported the nomination. Staff recommended listing under National Register Criterion C for architecture, and the commission approved the nomination by voice vote.

Staff explained that listing recognizes the property’s architectural significance and local context in the Sequoia Hills development of the 1920s; the commission’s action forwards the nomination for appropriate recordation.
