Annapolis council adopts budget timeline, formalizes Jan. 22, 2026 work session on priorities

The Annapolis City Council adopted R49‑25, the budget process timeline for fiscal year 2027, and approved an amendment to add a council work session on Jan. 22, 2026 to discuss budget priorities.

Alderman Hunt proposed Amendment 1 to explicitly add the Jan. 22 work session to the resolution’s whereas clauses and read the proposed language into the record. Council members debated whether the administration typically sets work session agendas and whether formalizing the work session in the resolution was necessary; supporters said enshrining the session in the timeline helps systematize the budget process.

The amendment was adopted by the council and then the resolution was approved as amended on second reader. The adopted amendment directs staff and the Finance Department to include the work session on the council calendar; members were asked to submit budget priorities in advance so the chair could compile them for the Jan. 22 discussion.
