Holmen School Board approves agenda, consent items and moves into closed session on personnel

The Holmen School District Board of Education approved the published meeting agenda and the consent agenda and then voted to move into closed session to consider employment matters.

The meeting opened at 7 p.m. with a land acknowledgement and the Pledge of Allegiance. After the roll call established a seven-member quorum, Board clerk Maggie Smith moved to approve the agenda as published; the Chair seconded and members approved the motion by voice vote. Later, the board approved the consent agenda on a motion by Chris Lau and a second from Khadija Islam; that motion passed by voice vote with no items pulled for separate discussion.

Before adjourning the public portion of the meeting, the board addressed a procedural matter: Maggie Smith read a resolution to adjourn into closed session "pursuant to" Wisconsin law to consider employment matters. Maggie Smith moved to enter closed session and Chris Lau seconded. The board took a roll-call vote, with each member recorded as voting yes, and the Chair announced the board would move into closed session under Wis. Stat. § 19.85(1)(c).

The roll call for the closed-session motion, as read during the meeting, recorded affirmative votes from the board members called. The board then left the open session and entered closed session to discuss personnel-related matters; no substantive personnel decisions were announced before the public meeting adjourned into closed session.

The board scheduled several upcoming meetings, including a Jan. 12 board meeting at 7 p.m., when several consent-agenda items (including an affiliation agreement with Western Technical College) are listed for consideration.
