Marblehead High presents AP expansion and rising participation; 59% of 10–12 graders took exams this year

Administrators and AP coordinators updated the committee on Advanced Placement offerings at Marblehead High School, saying the district now offers 21 College Board‑approved AP courses across disciplines.

"We are very proud to offer 21 different courses in advanced placement," presenter Julia Perez said, noting that the courses follow College Board standards and require submitted syllabi and materials for approval.

District slides shared with the committee reported that out of 595 students in grades 10–12, 353 took AP exams (about 59%), accounting for 829 total exam registrations. The presentation cited increases in the number of exam subjects offered in recent years and highlighted awards including 64 AP Scholars, 41 Scholars with Honor, 83 Scholars of Distinction and two Capstone diplomas.

Committee members asked about how AP credit translates to college placement and suggested surveying recent graduates about credit acceptance and placement outcomes. Administrators said they will consult the counseling director to gather data on how AP credits have been applied at colleges and whether APs facilitated placement into higher‑level college courses.

The update also previewed new AP capstone courses (seminar and research) and noted efforts to expand equitable access and professional development for AP teachers.
