The Coffey County Board of Commissioners on Dec. 22 authorized the chairman to sign 11 tax abatements totaling $7,928.12 and approved two landfill-fee waivers connected to demolition work.
The board discussed one abatement with a change in value attributed to water and other damage and clarified that assessed values would be restored if the building is repaired. A staff member described the waiver request for 824 North 4th (owned by MT Networks LLC) as demolition of the old clinic to build a warehouse; the commissioners moved and unanimously approved a motion to waive landfill fees for that structure.
A separate waiver was approved for a fire-damaged trailer house owned by Terry and Pauline Peek and Jerry Hoyt, which staff said will be removed and leave a vacant lot. The tax abatements were moved, seconded and approved on the record with commissioners responding "Aye."
