Facilities update: district addresses aging boilers, schedules ARC Flash training and rolls out new work‑order system

District facilities staff delivered a detailed report on maintenance priorities and safety steps across five aging school buildings. The presentation said boilers were opened, cleaned and tuned districtwide and described a specific problem at the primary building where a refractory and flame issue had caused recurring outages; staff proposed moving an existing boiler from one building to another as a cost‑effective repair contingent on permitting and technical feasibility.

Staff noted Lonsdale’s glycol loop measured about 17% (below the preferred 30–40%) and that glycol will be pumped into the system to prevent organism growth and clogged filters. Facilities announced ARC Flash safety training on Jan. 5 to meet Minnesota state requirements and a planned electrical equipment analysis to label PPE levels on panels.

The district also described a new districtwide work‑order and preventive‑maintenance platform developed with a third‑party technical team (identified in the meeting as Brightley) that will support asset tagging, preventive maintenance alerts, inventory tracking and detailed reporting to improve transparency about maintenance spending.

Board members asked technical questions about boilers, permits and the timeline for repairs. Staff said they will bring more detailed permit and financing information to a future facilities meeting and will proceed with the scheduled ARC Flash training and glycol replenishment.
