Council members were told Feb. 13 that the Elm Street waterline project has secured a $400,000 grant but that work is unlikely to begin until the county or state budget issues are resolved.
Finance chair Mr. LeMay told the council, “So we are getting $400,000 I want to make sure everybody knows that.” He added that the village would owe $100,000 for the project and that, because the government budget had not yet passed, the money would likely arrive sometime later in the year and the work probably could not start until 2025. LeMay warned that construction costs will likely increase in the interim and said the village would address those increases when they occur.
The item at the meeting was presented as an update rather than a formal vote; no construction contract was approved and the council did not set a construction start date. The village will need to coordinate funding timing, local matching funds and project scheduling once state and county appropriations are finalized.
What happens next: The village will await disbursement timing from higher levels of government, plan for the local $100,000 match and schedule the project once funds are available.
