The City of Chandler will hold its annual Tumbleweed Tree lighting on December 6 from 4:30 to 9 p.m. at Dr. A.J. Chandler Park, city-affiliated broadcaster Mahirson Hasson said in a short feature about the event.
City parks staff spent months collecting tumbleweeds, assembling them into the display at Dr. A.J. Chandler Park and completing final preparations such as spraying paint and fire retardant before adding glitter and lights, Hasson said. "The city's parks and recreation department has worked hard to put this tree together over the past few months," Hasson said.
The tree is a labor-intensive, seasonal installation that parks employees described as both difficult work and a source of workplace camaraderie. An unidentified worker said members of the crew sometimes hear the public dismiss tumbleweeds as "trash," but added, "we make it something that people want to come see." Another unidentified worker described the tree as "the only one in the world," and said building it each year lets staff hone skills and take pride in the project.
Workers emphasized the repetitive, detail-oriented preparation that precedes the lighting. "Once we get to do that lighting and see all the families and kids, it... makes it all worth it," one unidentified speaker said, summarizing what staff called the event’s reward. The segment highlighted staff recognition and community enjoyment more than any policy or funding details.
Organizers directed listeners to the city website for event details: chandleraz.gov. For the City of Chandler, Mahirson Hasson delivered the announcement and sign-off.
The lighting is scheduled for Dec. 6, 4:30 p.m.–9 p.m. at Dr. A.J. Chandler Park; further logistical or safety details were not specified in the segment.
