Amber Hellstrom, UCAP developer and IT specialist, walked directors through the new Utah Charter Access Point (UCAP) and explained it will replace the older utahsesb.org site as the single web application for charter information. "UCAP stands for Utah Charter Access Point and is a web application established by the state charter school board," she said, and demonstrated a public landing page, a school directory, enrollment and financial dashboards, training and events listings, and a rulemaking page that accepts public comments.
Why it matters: UCAP centralizes public information for LEAs and director contacts, offers filtered directories and role‑based access for more data, and gives staff and the public an easier way to find board materials and training resources. Hellstrom emphasized that LEAs are responsible for managing user accounts and should deactivate accounts for departing staff so contact lists remain accurate.
Key features highlighted: a public landing page with school directory and board materials, role‑based logged‑in views for directors and administrators, downloadable reports on enrollment and finances, a calendar for charter news and events, translation options for families in languages beyond English when a school’s non‑English population exceeds 20%, and a rulemaking page that shows current notices and allows submission of public comment.
What directors should do: review the UCAP school profile for accuracy, ensure user accounts are current, and consider using the UCAP news and calendar features to promote local events or job postings. Hellstrom offered staff support and contact details for LEAs needing help with user management or data fixes.
