Bettendorf board approves October financials; member moves to file SBRC funding request

The Bettendorf Community School District board on Dec. 1 approved its October financial reports and discussed a motion to submit an application to the School Budget Review Committee (SBRC) for additional funding.

Finance staff presented October results showing an 8% decrease in revenues and a 23.5% increase in expenses compared with the prior year; presenters said those changes reflect higher business costs and utility bills but that the district’s overall solvency and days-cash-on-hand remain healthy. The finance presentation noted the nutrition-services fund as an area of concern but said federal reimbursements were not affected.

During the meeting a board member moved to approve an SBRC application. The mover stated dollar figures in the meeting record that appear to have been transcribed incorrectly; the transcript records an unusually large number and a second smaller figure that are inconsistent with typical SBRC requests. The board paused to separate the request into two motions and asked for clarification before proceeding. District staff told the board they would split the submission as required and supply correct figures to the board and public.
