The Bettendorf Community School District superintendent told the board Dec. 1 that a donor-funded renovation will replace the high-school fitness-center flooring and equipment this winter and that the district is exploring rotating monthly board meetings to school sites to boost community engagement.
The superintendent said the district contracted Dynamic Fitness to remove the existing floor around Dec. 22–23, with flooring removal and installation work scheduled Dec. 27–30 and equipment reinstallation planned around Dec. 31–Jan. 2. The goal is to reopen the fitness center for students when classes resume on Jan. 5. The district plans a spring auction for replaced equipment.
On board meeting locations, the superintendent proposed holding one meeting per month at different district buildings with a 5:00–5:30 community engagement window followed by a return to the district office for the formal meeting. Staff warned that offsite meetings would require additional staff to manage live-streaming, AV and presentations (microphones and fixed streaming infrastructure are currently centered in the district boardroom) and could suffer lower streaming quality if run from mobile devices. Directors discussed logistics, noise issues at multipurpose spaces and the need for clear advance notice to the public.
Next steps: staff will circulate a draft rotational schedule and a sign-up for directors to trial visits and will post any operational implications for AV and staffing.
