LaSalle approves full closure of 6th Street for LPHS agricultural facility construction

The LaSalle City Council voted to permit a full closure of 6th Street between Creve Court and Lafayette to accommodate construction of the LPHS agricultural facility, authorizing the closure daily from 6:15 a.m. until the end of the workday from Dec. 22 through mid-May 2026.

Project representatives told the council that the construction site lacks on-site staging room, requiring frequent deliveries and continuous movement of masonry materials. Tim Faust, the project manager identified in the record, said the site layout prevented intermittent access closures and described the logistics: "the site is taken up with the entire building ... so we have to come back and forth all day long ... the intermediate close it is not even really practical." Council members raised concerns about early-morning noise and referenced the city's construction noise ordinance and allowable hours; staff indicated the proposed start time of 6:15 a.m. falls within permitted hours for weekday construction.

After the discussion the council moved, seconded and approved the request by voice vote. Council members and the project team said they would monitor noise and work-hour impacts and return to the council if modifications were needed.

The closure approval allows the contractor to stage materials and operate continuously for greater efficiency during the multi-month masonry phase. The council did not set additional mitigation conditions at the meeting beyond the standard noise-hour limitations described by staff.
