Board highlights Falcon Market and CTE expansions; Falcon pass and security changes to be clarified in January

Superintendent and school leaders described recent program expansions at Albany High and Sheridan Prep, including a newly opened Falcon Market pantry supported by Market 32/Price Chopper and the Regional Food Bank, expanded CTE pathways and student opportunities to showcase work.

Superintendent Lesko thanked Market 32 and Price Chopper for a contribution exceeding $15,000 to launch the Falcon Market, a mini grocery-style food pantry and boutique at Albany High. He said the district expects culinary and CTE partnership opportunities, including potential visits by a Market 32 executive chef and student-centered events.

Sheridan Prep Principal Tina Marie Cascone highlighted the school’s community-school model, new sensory room, and enrichment hours that allow teachers common planning time and students weekly enrichment through community partners.

Board members praised the Falcon Market and asked practical questions about the Falcon pass—an honor-based pass for Albany High students tied to an 80+ GPA, 90% attendance and acceptable behavior that would allow limited headphone and courtyard privileges. Members also asked whether recent security procedure changes (implemented before January) would require bag searches for earbuds or whether staff will check lists at screening points. The superintendent said the district’s security director, Jason Davis, will deliver a full annual update on Jan. 8; staff will provide specifics on how the Falcon pass and security checks will operate.

Next steps: security director to report at the January meeting; student government and principals to finalize Falcon pass application processes and public communication.
