During non-agenda comments the commission heard two community-focused items: a safety concern about crosswalk timing on Matilda Avenue and an announcement that the Sunnyvale Education Foundation extended its donation drive through the end of the year.
Commissioner Haithman said the existing pedestrian crossing interval at Matilda and Iowa/McKinley (reported as 27 seconds) can be insufficient for slower walkers and recommended staff consider measures such as leading pedestrian intervals or a no-turn-on-red restriction. Staff said they would relay the timing and signal-configuration concerns to the traffic signal operations team for review.
Commissioner Galakota announced that the Sunnyvale Education Foundation has extended its drive to collect food boxes and grocery gift cards, and provided the foundation’s donation webpage as a resource for residents.
Staff also reminded commissioners to consider potential projects for the upcoming Transportation Development Act (TDA) funding discussion next month and agreed to circulate eligibility guidance for quick-build/type projects.
