Tampa City Council approved the mayor’s nomination of Scott Steady as the next city attorney and voted to reappoint two members to the public nuisance abatement/code enforcement board.
Outgoing City Attorney Andrea Zelman introduced Scott Steady and summarized his decades of experience with the city and in private practice; Steady spoke briefly, introduced family members in the gallery and told council he looks forward to serving. Councilmembers from across the dais praised his experience and the legal team he will lead.
The formal resolution to appoint Steady was moved and seconded from the dais and the council voted to confirm the appointment.
Separately, Shirley Fox Knowles, city clerk, introduced two applicants to rejoin the public nuisance abatement board — Randy Jackson and Jason Valkenburg — both of whom discussed their board service and time commitments. Council reviewed qualifications, motioned and approved their reappointments.
What’s next: Steady’s appointment is effective in January per the announcement; the city attorney transition will include department leadership responsibilities that council and staff discussed in the open meeting.
