Planning Commission okays office and limited vehicle storage for oil-well services at Somerset Boulevard

The Planning Commission voted to approve Conditional Use Permit No. 985 for Horacio Velorio Oil Well Service Company to use 7243 Somerset Boulevard as a headquarters and limited vehicle storage site. Staff recommended approval with conditions to screen and limit exterior storage to two oil rig vehicles and seven service trucks.

Staff explained the property is in a commercial/manufacturing zone, described the site (about 45,412 square feet with a building under 6,000 square feet), and said the proposed operation is primarily an administrative base: employees travel off-site for field work and vehicle servicing would not occur on the property. Recommended conditions included painting a rusty gate, improving perimeter landscaping and removing nonpermitted storage containers.

During questions, staff confirmed no vehicle servicing or oil-well work would occur on site and that the storage areas would be screened from public view. No members of the public spoke in opposition. The commission moved, seconded and carried approval by roll call; staff will incorporate the listed conditions before finalizing permits.
