Kirkwood board approves modest tuition increases for KECC and Adventure Club

The Kirkwood R‑VII School Board approved proposed tuition rate increases for the district’s early childhood and before/after school programs for the 2026–27 year.

Administration said KECC (the district’s early childhood programming) operates as a self‑funded entity where tuition and grants offset program costs. Pre‑K tuition rates were proposed generally at a 3% increase across programs to keep fees aligned and the fund healthy after lower‑than‑expected growth in FY25. The Adventure Club (before and after school care) was recommended for a roughly 5% increase to bring the district’s pricing closer to peer districts and to address rising staffing costs; summer Adventure Club was proposed at roughly a 3% increase.

Administration said the Adventure Club and KECC are intended to cover costs through revenue and grants rather than to grow the fund significantly. Officials said the KECC fund remains healthy and that 27 tuition‑free spots currently exist; the number of out‑of‑district enrollments was not specified in the presentation.

After questions from board members about specific classroom rate adjustments (Robinson preschool classroom proposed 3.5% to align with other sites), the board voted to approve the tuition rates as presented.
