Students pitch interactive music exhibit to YNAB board

Moments Music Matter youth presenters told the YNAB Grant Review Board they plan an interactive music-history exhibit that will showcase music objects, involve student volunteers and include interviews with local producers and DJs.

Lovely Carla Davis, a Moments Music Matter presenter, said the project will “show how music has impacted us culturally from jazz to hip hop,” and described plans to build displays (cassette tapes, CD players, instruments) and involve students in exhibit production at Northwest Career and Technical Academy. Presenters said they would recruit volunteers from audio-production and reentry programs, and pledged a volunteer commitment described in the presentation as “40 hours multiplied by 47 volunteers.”

When a board member asked whether $100 line items for “tribute to Las Vegas DJ” were payments, a presenter clarified, “Those are actual DJs we plan to interview.” Presenters enumerated budget items such as speakers and display clothing and said some visual materials are AI-generated examples to demonstrate the display concept. The board asked follow-up questions about stipend distribution and onsite activities; presenters said stipend gift cards would be allocated to youth volunteers they determine to be passionate and engaged. The YNAB board will deliberate and vote on awards at a later meeting; staff will notify applicants of recommendations after deliberation.
