School committee advances new student data privacy policy and related housekeeping updates

The committee reviewed a package of policy updates anchored by a proposed student data privacy policy. Administrators said the new policy is intended to memorialize district practices for protecting student names, emails and other personally identifiable information used by third‑party vendors and learning platforms.

Policy committee members noted that few Massachusetts districts have fully formed student‑data privacy policies and that the district drew language from several external samples. The updates included cross‑references to communicable disease and medication‑administration policies and an update to school admissions language to improve rental/residency verification procedures.

Administrators said the district will continue annual technology reviews and that parents sign a comprehensive digital‑use agreement at the start of the school year. The committee moved the items forward as first readings; further review and a second reading will follow the usual policy cycle.
