Sellersburg council extends moratorium, hears public works and safety updates and approves attorney extension

The Town of Sellersburg council approved multiple housekeeping and operational items on Dec. 15.

Council voted to extend the existing moratorium on new multifamily development for one additional year to allow continued study of the unified development ordinance and planning commission work. The extension was moved and passed by voice vote.

Public works staff outlined holiday trash collection schedule changes (adjustments for Christmas and New Year’s weeks), announced the end of yard-waste pickups for the season, and described upcoming nighttime utility relocations on U.S. 31 with detours for residents. Staff also noted the town was awarded approximately $508,000 in CCMG funding for roadwork to be bid in January.

The police chief reported on the department’s annual Shop with a Cop program (23 children served), thanked volunteers and donors from a recent car show (approximately $3,000 raised), and said the department is operating at partial staffing but considers the town safe. Council approved a one-year extension of the town attorney’s contract on the same terms as the current agreement.

Council members exchanged parting remarks and thanked departing member Scott for six years of service; members highlighted infrastructure projects, redevelopment progress and community events.
