Fairfax council adopts 0.96-mill renewal levy resolution for waste collection (6–0)

The Village of Fairfax council unanimously adopted Resolution R3-2021 on June 21, asking the county auditor to certify matters necessary to place a 0.96-mill renewal levy for waste collection before voters. Staff said the levy originates from the late 1960s, is a renewal that would not raise taxes, and typically appears before voters every five years.

Village Administrator said the current levy expires at the end of the year; if the resolution is certified by the county auditor staff will file required paperwork with the board of elections (mid-August deadline) so the measure can appear on the 2022 ballot. The administrator also said the village will inform residents through the newsletter, website and social media if the levy is certified and scheduled for the ballot.

The council voted 6–0 to suspend three readings and to adopt the resolution. The meeting transcript does not include specific revenue projections beyond a statement that the auditor will certify the expected levy yield and that staff will report back once certification is received.
