The Village of Fairfax council on April 19 adopted multiple ordinances affecting pay scales, staffing and local rules. Council members voted to suspend the three-reading rule for several measures and approved each item by roll call.
Among the actions, council adopted Ordinance 10/2021 to amend compensation schedules and work periods for police positions, Ordinance 11/2021 to create and confirm a civilian police clerk, and Ordinance 12/2021 to create the position of tax administrator. Ordinance 13/2021 provided classifications and rates for labor and custodian positions. Council also confirmed Ordinance 14/2021 (appointment and pay for the village administrator) and Ordinance 15/2021 (compensation for the village fiscal officer, referred to in the meeting as Rob).
Public-safety policy adjustments included Ordinance 16/2021, which amended the curfew for persons age 17 and younger and clarified penalties. Budget and emergency accounting moves were handled through Ordinance 17/2021 (current expenditures for the fiscal year ending Dec. 31, 2021, adding the coronavirus relief fund 2151) and Ordinance 18/2021 (transfers from general-fund lines to the coronavirus relief fund for local government distribution, payroll-related lines, pension and other identified accounts).
Council also completed a third reading and adopted Ordinance 7/2021, which updated the zoning map for the Riverside of Wooster Pike area after a public hearing.
Most measures were presented as emergency ordinances so raises and appointments could take immediate effect. Roll-call votes for the listed ordinances recorded unanimous recorded 'Aye' votes from the council: Miss Camarissi, Mister Ernst, Mister Kessel, Miss Lally, Miss Resnick and Mister Riffle for each item as recorded in the transcript.
The mayor presented the monthly report for March showing $6,057.28 in the mayor's report, which the council approved. The police chief noted a $1,999.98 camera replacement following vandalism, which the department will absorb rather than pursue an insurance claim. Council asked for follow-up reporting on several items and scheduled future committee meetings.
