Board moves RH Johnson courtyard face-lift into 2026–27 CIP consideration

Director Chatton moved that the governing board consider adding an RH Johnson courtyard renovation to the FY26‑27 capital-improvement budget. Chatton said the properties committee had toured facilities and identified courtyard and exterior gathering-space improvements that would deliver a visual “wow factor.” Resident Ron Petrin urged the board to defer major structural work to the master plan and suggested small investments such as new furniture or a mural instead.

Committee-member and resident Jim Scott (who serves on the properties committee) told the board the intent was a modest face lift rather than extensive reconstruction. Director Becknell and others agreed a limited, cosmetic renovation (paint, furniture, landscaping) could restore appeal quickly and complement master-plan work later. The board voted to place the courtyard renovation into the FY26‑27 budget consideration; as with other CIP motions, this vote does not authorize construction but moves the project into evaluation and costing.

Why it matters: The item keeps options open for near‑term improvements to community gathering spaces while preserving master-plan authority for major redesign.
