Marple Newtown School Districts school board voted Nov. 25 to approve a series of committee recommendations, create a new STEM scholarship and accept district donations.
The board approved multiple budget and committee slates after motions and seconds, with members responding in the affirmative during voice votes. The meeting opened with seven board members present.
Among the approved actions, the board authorized creation of the "Molly Golbone STEM Memorial Scholarship" and the associated scholarship account as presented. The motion to establish the scholarship was moved, seconded and carried by the board.
The board also accepted a $1,520.99 donation from the Paxson Holland Middle School PTO to purchase a water boiler filling station and accepted $3,350 in gift-card donations from the gift-card bank in partnership with the ACME Foundation's Nourishing Neighbors program to support Marple Newtown families in need. Combined, the accepted gifts totaled $4,870.99.
Committee business cleared included approval of budget and finance items (11.02 6.08 and 11.10 6.13 with 11.09 tabled for future consideration), facilities and transportation items (12.02 6.11), curriculum and instruction items, and human resources and policy items (14.02 6.09). Each slate was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
When motions were adopted, the chair closed votes with the standard phrasing recorded in the minutes: "The ayes have it." The transcript does not record a roll-call tally for each motion but the chair had announced seven board members present at roll call earlier in the meeting.
Whats next: Item 11.09 was explicitly tabled and will be revisited at a later meeting, per the boards discussion.
