Carroll County honors longtime employees at Dec. 18 commissioners meeting

Commissioners opened their Dec. 18 meeting with a series of certificates and public thanks for county employees who are retiring or were recently honored.

Karen Brown, permit technician, was named Permit Technician of the Year by the Maryland Building Officials Association; staff praised her customer service and initiative.

The board read certificates honoring Ryan (also referred to as Brian) Van Fossen for 30 years of service as a fire protection specialist and longtime Westminster volunteer; colleagues noted his subject matter expertise in fire codes. Sandra (Sandy) Baber received thanks for 38 years of service in planning and land management and GIS work. Timothy R. Hare was recognized for 37 years in erosion and sediment control and environmental inspection; Harvey 'Herbie' Lowe was honored for 25 years in water distribution and utilities.

Commissioners and staff praised each honoree’s institutional knowledge and public service. Several said the county will rely on the teams those employees helped to build as retirements take effect.
