Superintendent: Wethersfield receives $19,635 paraeducator subsidy, trauma kits for nurses and $250,000 parental‑engagement grant

Superintendent Woodby summarized several district items at the Nov. 25 meeting, telling the board that Wethersfield Public Schools received a one‑time paraeducator subsidy of $19,635 from the state and that every school nurse now has a trauma‑kit backpack for emergency response.

“We're the recipients of a 1 time payment of $19,635,” Woodby said, describing the paraeducator subsidy as state support to help paraprofessionals with the employee share of health insurance. On school safety, he said the trauma kits include “tourniquets, bandages, pressure bandages, splints” so nurses can respond quickly to severe bleeding or other serious injuries.

Woodby also told trustees the district had been awarded a $250,000 grant to support a 'Parents Connecting Parents' program; he credited the local state senator for championing the award. On food services, the superintendent said district breakfasts were down about 280 meals per day and lunches down about 440 per day year‑to‑date through October, while a la carte sales increased roughly $38,000 in gross sales.

Woodby closed with an update on professional development: the Nov. 4 full‑day event included about 38 on‑site learning sessions, four off‑site conferences and approximately 300 certified and 100 non‑certified staff participating.
