La Grange Park board adopts ADA transition plan for village sidewalks

The Village of La Grange Park Board of Trustees on Nov. 25 adopted a resolution approving an Americans with Disabilities Act transition plan for the village's public sidewalks.

Trustee Council, chairing the administration committee, presented the plan developed with the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning and Oates Associates and recommended board approval. "Staff recommends approval of the ADA transition plan," Council said during the meeting. The board introduced Trevin Travis Hellkamp of Oates and Steven Ostrander of CMAP, who participated in the project presentation.

Trustees discussed implementation and budget timing. Trustee Wagner, representing the finance committee, said the plan will be "a big item of discussion" in the 2026 budgeting process and that staff will work with the committee to fund implementation. Council and other trustees emphasized that approval does not commit immediate capital spending but creates a prioritized plan staff will use to seek funding.

The board voted on a resolution to adopt the plan; the motion passed unanimously on a roll call vote. Staff said it will provide presentations and credentials for staff and officials to access the plan in the Cook County KMS system and will schedule a review session with the board in the coming months.

The approval follows a public comment period and prior work-session presentation in October that produced a village-wide prioritization map and a draft plan incorporating resident feedback.
