Elmwood Park CUSD 401 proposes calendar tweaks to reduce Thanksgiving ‘choppiness’

Dr. Rodrigo and Mister Naglek briefed the Elmwood Park CUSD 401 Board of Education on proposed revisions to the district calendar intended to reduce schedule disruption around the Thanksgiving period. The presenters said committee feedback and building-level input drove proposals to shift parent conferences and adjust trimester and semester end dates.

The recommended change moves some parent conferences to the week before Halloween to give K–5 and 6–8 teams more consistent time for instruction and reporting. Presenters said that alternation between elementary and middle-school preferences informed a compromise to alternate conference timing so each level can maintain reporting integrity.

Trimester lengths were adjusted to provide more balance: Trimester 1 approximately 57 days, Trimester 2 approximately 58 days, and Trimester 3 approximately 59 days; semester counts were also rebalanced (presenters referenced roughly 86–88 days across semesters). The presenters said these changes aim to ensure more uninterrupted instructional time immediately preceding the Thanksgiving break.

Board members had no substantive objections recorded in the transcript and thanked presenters for the update. The presentation was described as part of committee follow-up from December 4.
