VDOT reports flood repairs nearly complete; county requests follow-up on specific locations

Eric Hartless, VDOT assistant residency administrator for the WISE residency, updated the Board of Supervisors on repairs from the February flood and routine road projects.

Hartless said VDOT identified 54 permanent repair sites in the county and that about 95% of those repairs are complete; debris removal after the flood was reported complete. He listed completed patching on Route 63 and Route 603 and said latex overlay or paving is scheduled in the spring for Rockhouse Road and DC County Bridal. Two GSI sites at Little Canyon Ridge remain to be repaired and tree removal and grading on Toms Creek are scheduled depending on weather.

Supervisors raised specific local concerns — Pine Creek, Canyon Ridge and a hazardous tree on Powerhouse/ Pearhouse Holler — and Hartless agreed to supply exact location details and a schedule the following day. The board thanked VDOT crews for work on Steve Branch and other routes and requested an engineer review to assess guardrail criteria at identified spots.

VDOT staff will return follow-up information and continue to coordinate seasonal patching as conditions allow.
