County administrator updates board on DSS site work, opioid grant and family assistance totals

County administration reported multiple program and project updates to the Nelson County Board of Supervisors, including construction, human-services statistics and grant recommendations.

Staff (Speaker 3) said the DSS building site has been cleared and graded but recent wet weather has slowed site work. The administrator provided November CPS referral data: 24 total referrals, 9 validated and 15 screened out, with two investigations and seven family assessments among validated cases. Staff also reminded the board that 2026 reassessment notices were mailed and that appeals to assessors are being accepted through Dec. 18.

On opioid-abatement funding, Speaker 3 summarized FY25 Region 10 cooperative projects and said Nelson County served residents in the programs. Staff reported $21,099 remained from deficiency funds and recommended contributing $5,000–$10,000 of that funding to support a FY27 Region 10 renewal application due in March 2026; the board was asked for advisement on that contribution.

Speaker 3 also presented the Nelson County Community Development Foundation Family Assistance Program report: 48 requests totaling just over $24,000 were received, with 26 families assisted for $11,423.68 (average about $423 per family), including rent and utility assistance. Staff estimated the remaining allocation will be spent by early February.

Board members asked for implementation details on short-term rental tracking software (Rentalscape) and for further data where needed. The board did not take immediate new policy action but directed staff to proceed with planned follow-up and to return with any requested specifics.
