Superintendent spotlights awards and students; BCMS cheerleaders headed to state

The board’s spotlight segment included student recognitions and a superintendent report at the Dec. 8 meeting.

Miss Branner (presenter) and other staff recognized Bath County students for music and archery accomplishments and introduced multiple students by name, noting state-level auditions and collegiate commitments. Officials also recognized the Bath County Middle School cheerleading squad after a first-place finish that qualified the team for the upcoming state competition; coach Carmen Elam was invited forward for recognition.

Dr. Milton, superintendent, reported on a recent Title I parent engagement meeting and community-relations initiatives intended to improve transparency. Dr. Milton said the district received a safety award at the Kentucky Association of School Superintendents conference and that the district has recorded four traditional snow days and one NTI (nontraditional instruction) day; another NTI day was scheduled and staff will present options to the board next month on how to make up missed instructional time.

Dr. Milton said tomorrow’s NTI day will include staff curriculum work to help compress standards coverage should winter weather continue into January. The superintendent did not propose additional calendar changes at the meeting and indicated staff would present make-up options to the board in January.
