Three directors sworn in as Sumner Bonney Lake board opens December meeting

Judge Alicia Burton administered the oath of office to three directors of the Sumner Bonney Lake School District board during the Dec. 16 meeting, formally seating JB Smith, Tom Watson and Erin Markart.

The ceremony included introductions of family members and brief remarks. Erin Markart reflected on her 12 years of service and thanked colleagues and staff, saying she was “so grateful for all the lessons we've learned together.” Each director affirmed they would "support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Washington" and to "faithfully discharge the duties" of director as required by their oath.

The swearing-in preceded routine business on the agenda, including approval of the meeting agenda and consent items. Directors posed for photos with family members after the oath and several trustees used board comments later in the meeting to note continuity with prior service and community events linked to district programs.

The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Jan. 20, 2026, at 6 p.m. in the district’s Central Boardroom Office.
