Brothers behind Everyday People Club pitch inclusive wellness events, host Thanksgiving walk and food drive

John and Mark Penaserrada, brothers and cofounders of the Everyday People Club, described to the Daly City Recreation Commission how their grassroots group runs monthly inclusive fitness and wellness gatherings intended for all ages and ability levels.

"We are a community from all walks of life," John Penaserrada said, explaining the club’s mission to make movement accessible and nonintimidating. Mark Penaserrada said the group launched monthly events earlier this year after running Thanksgiving morning events during the pandemic; the club now counts about 100 members and has partnered with local businesses and community groups.

The presenters invited commissioners and residents to a wellness walk and food drive scheduled for Thanksgiving morning at 8 a.m. at the Dozer Fitness Court. They said proceeds and donated shelf-stable food will support a nearby cultural center pantry (transcript spelling of the partner alternated between "Kapo" and "Kapa" Cultural Center during the presentation).

Commissioners praised the group’s inclusive approach and shared related resources; one commissioner said he would share contacts for adaptive cycling and other inclusive events. Several commissioners and staff said they planned to RSVP and help publicize the walk.

The Everyday People Club said future offerings include recurring walks, light exercise classes and social gatherings aimed at encouraging community connection and mental-health benefits from group movement.
